The Hoher Kalmberg (1,833 m) is one of the great viewpoint mountains above Bad Goisern. With the Goiserer Hütte just below the summit, it's a day hike with a built-in stop for refreshments.
The route
You start at the car park by the Trockentann toboggan run, about 4 minutes by car from the villa. Forest roads and larch woods lead up to the Goiserer Hütte at 1,592 m in 2.5 to 3 hours. On the way you pass the Kalmooskirche, a rock cave with a history.

At the summit
From the hut it's about 45 more minutes to the summit cross. Just below it keeps watch the "Kalmberg Indian", a rock formation resembling a head in profile. The view reaches across the Goisern valley and Gosau to the Gosaukamm and the Dachstein – on clear days even as far as the Großglockner.
Stop in
The Goiserer Hütte of the Austrian Alpine Club is open from early May to late October. On the menu: honest hut food and, of course, Kaiserschmarrn.
