The Advent and New Year's markets of the Wolfgangsee region are a wonderful outing for the contemplative time of year. The boats of the Wolfgangsee Schifffahrt connect the Advent markets of Strobl, St. Wolfgang and St. Gilgen, so several places can be visited comfortably.
At the Goisern weekly market a few addresses count: bread from the local baker, smoked char from the fisherman, alpine cheese from farmers, honey from the beekeeper. Before 10 a.m. selection is largest — after 11 the specialities are often gone.
Tip: bring your own bag or basket, plastic bags are rare here.
In Advent, the Wolfgangsee boats connect the three towns Strobl, St. Wolfgang and St. Gilgen — three different Advent markets in one afternoon, with mulled wine on board. The combined ticket “3 auf einen Streich” costs €31 (children €9.20), and on Sundays children travel free with an adult.
In 2026 the boats run from 20 November to 20 December, Wednesday to Sunday, and the markets are open until 19:30. For romantics: take a late-afternoon boat and watch the sunset over the lake. You’ll find all Advent dates in the region in our Advent overview 2026.
