There’s plentyto discover, experienceand enjoyin Bad Goisern and the inner Salzkammergut region. It would probably take a whole lifetime, if you wanted to do all of it. Because nobody has that much time available, we have put together a small list of attractions that should be on your holiday bucket list to do.
“Ewige Wand – Eternal Wall“ / figurines- and myths path

Starting from “Rathluckn Huette” you can enter the figurines and myths path at “Ewige Wand”. This path leads through a picturesque wood,
splits into two rock blasted cave corridors and surprises you with a magnificent view across Bad Goisern as the finale.
The walk to “Ewige Wand” takes approx. 30 minutes and is suitable for kids and buggies.

Predigtstuhl – Preachers Chair

Bad Goiserns mount „Predigtstuhl“ is probably the most popular peak for locals when it comes to doing a short hike with a spectacular view from the top. Most hikers start their walk either at “Hoehenweg” at “Rathluckn Huette” or directly at Predigtstuhl car park. From there the walk takes you between 1 and 1.5 hours to the top.
Solid boots, a good head for heights as well as a stable footing is highly recommended if you’d like to go on this beautiful hike.
Ferries trip on Lake Hallstättersee - Round trip north

This is the most beautiful way to get to Hallstatt! Austria’s only all-year cruise ship connects the UNESCO world-heritage villages Hallstatt – Obertraun – Bad Goisern. It offers regularly scheduled round trips that are aligned with the train schedule. You also have the option to take your bicycle on board.
You can either take the train from Bad Goisern to Hallstatt train station and then take the boat from there or you make a round-trip starting from the public bathing area “Strandbad” in Bad Goisern. Either way – it’s going to be an unforgettable journey!

in Hallstatt
Salzwelten – „salt mine“ Hallstatt

Hallstatt’s salt mine is the oldest known salt mine in the world. Salt started to be mined here as long as 7000 years ago. During the Bronze Age the village experienced its first economic boom. A funicular takes you to the free-hanging skywalk with a “world-heritage” view, burial grounds and salt mine exhibition.
Hallstatt old town

Hallstatt’s old town is globally unique in regard to its architecture and ancient buildings. It’s sits very closely to the hillside between the mountain and the lake. It’s not without any reason that hundreds of thousands of tourists come every year to experience Hallstatt with its pretty alleys and the beautiful photograph viewpoints.
Hallstatt Skywalk

At the bottom of the burial grounds of “Salzberg” and 360 metres above the roof tops of Hallstatt is the imposing Rudolfs-tower. From there, Hallstatt Skywalk reaches 12 metres beyond the cliffs. The platform offers a spectacular view across the UNESCO-world heritage region which is considered the cradle of Hallstatt-age. The platform can easily be accessed via a funicular or for the more active ones on foot.

Lake Gosau

The view across Lake Gosau to the Dachtstein glacier has been eternalised on hundreds of paintings and remains a very popular photo scene. A walk around the lake is easy and will take about one hour (the path is also suitable for prams).
Gosaukamm Cable Car Zwieselalm

There’s a cable car at Lake Gosau that leads up to Zwieselalm which is a great starting point for advanced and passionate hikers as well as offering great footpaths for easy walks too. Also, there are plenty of chalets and mountain huts to stop for a bite to eat.

Schafberg Cable Car

Thanks to the movie “The Sound of Music” Mount Schafberg is now world-famous. You can access the 1783m high peak of Mount Schafberg by rack railway and enjoy breath-taking views across the lakes of Salzkammergut. The historical rack railway locomotive is considered one of the oldest locomotives still operating on earth.
Shipping cruises on Lake Wolfgang

The traditional Lake Wolfgang boat cruise with the revered paddle steamer “Emperor Franz Josef” and five additional motor ships, connects the three villages at Lake-Wolfgang in a romantic way: Strobl – St. Wolfgang – St. Gilgen.

in Obertraun
Five Fingers

Like the fingers of a hand, the imposing platform rises over the 400 metres steep abyss at Mount Krippenstein. From here, you have impressive outlooks to the deep and black looking Lake Hallstatt and the landscape of the Inner Salzkammergut. The viewing platform can be reached within 20-30 minutes from the top station of the cable car. An additional smaller platform on the way to “Five Fingers” allows a great view of Mount Dachstein. The path is very suitable for kids too.
Cave World

Dachstein Cave World awaits you! There are three natural caves which you can visit. The “Giant Ice Cave” and “Mammoth Cave” can be reached by cable car and explored on a guided tour. The cable car also goes to the very top of Mount Krippenstein where you can enjoy a tremendous panorama from the “Five Fingers” viewing platform. “Koppenbrueller Cave” can be accessed on foot (no cable car required) during the summer months.

in Ausseerland
Boat tour on Lake Altaussee

Aboard the solar catamaran “Altaussee” you cross this picturesque lake at the bottom of Mount “Loser” in an environmentally friendly way. This is a trip you definitely won’t forget. Whilst you are there, you can also visit “Seewiese” which was a film location for “James Bond Spectre”.
Boat tour on Lake Grundlsee

Across the “Styrian Sea” with cruise operator “Schifffahrt Grundlsee”. They have been operating for 140 years and also offer a 3-lakes-tour which consists of a tour across Lake Grundlsee, a 20-minute walk to Lake “Toplitzsee” followed by a special trip on a very traditional wooden boat, called a “Plaette”, as well as a walk to the origin of river “Traun”: Lake Kammerse.
