The story behind the villa
A pretty crazy idea grew into arguably the most beautiful house in Goisern. Here is how it all began.
“We did not want to build a hotel — we wanted a home. One where you feel right at home too.”
The story
When you walk through our rooms, you walk over almost 100 years of hospitality history. As early as the late 1920s, rooms were rented to holidaymakers here — in what was then “Haus Edelweiß”. Well past her 90th birthday, Hermine Peer — affectionately known to everyone as “Minnerl” — welcomed guests from all over the world. With breakfast, dedication and a smile that shaped generations.
In 2018 we — Wilfried and Julia — took over the house. With a pretty crazy plan in mind: to build arguably the most beautiful house in Goisern. A home for us. And at the same time a place where you will feel almost a little at home too, after a few days.
Our story
The beginnings
In the late 1920s, doors open here for holidaymakers for the first time. The “Haus Edelweiß” is born.
Villa Salzweg
The old Haus Edelweiß sadly could not be saved — so we built completely from scratch. Together with our friends Christoph and Thomas of Musler & Lahner, a house was created that picks up the character of the old Goisern summer villas, but on the inside has everything that makes modern holidays comfortable.
The villa owes its name to the Soleweg (brine path), which runs right past our property. Since 1607, brine has been flowing beneath your feet through the oldest pipeline in the world — from the Hallstatt salt mine to the Ebensee salt works. Incredible, right?
Meet your hosts
Wilfried & Julia
We are a small family business: Wilfried and Julia — your hosts; our children Veit, Fini and Hedi, Wilfried’s mother Diemut, and our house cats Filou & Gin (who will probably greet you before we do).
Holiday rentals were new territory for us. But in the meantime we have found our rhythm. What drives us? That you arrive here, take a deep breath, and just briefly forget everything else.
Awards
We give our best every day — and luckily you confirm that too. The Austrian private host association rated us as one of only 19 properties in all of Austria with the highest award. That honestly left us a bit speechless.
