The heated pools of the Goisern outdoor pool offer family bathing fun from May to September. Beside the main 25 m lap pool there's a kids' pool with two slides and a baby pool with mini slide for the very smallest. A snack bar takes care of food. There's also a beach volleyball court and a large sun lawn.

Badewiese Goisererbrücke

Spot on the Traun right around the corner — ideal after a warm hiking day.

In longer hot weather periods the Traun often warms up nicely. Just three minutes' walk from Villa Salzweg, at the Goisererbrücke, lies a popular swimming meadow. Discover it after a tiring hiking day and dare a refreshing dip in the cool water!

Strandbad Untersee

Free lakeside lido at the Hallstättersee with snack bar, playground and nudist area set apart.

With snack bar, changing rooms, toilets, showers, playground and beach volleyball court, the Strandbad in Untersee is a wonderful place to enjoy the Hallstättersee. The lido is free to use, but parking at the lido car park is paid. Set apart from the regular lido there's also a public nudist area.

Strandbad Obertraun

Very family-friendly: water slide, beach volleyball, playground, barbecue spots — free.

The Strandbad Obertraun is a beautifully maintained lido on the Hallstättersee, very well equipped for families. Beach volleyball court, playground, barbecue spots, water slide, changing rooms and snack bar keep longer beach days interesting. The Obertraun lido is free for visitors.

In the Ausseerland

Grundlsee

Styria’s largest lake, crystal-clear, up to 25 °C in August — the perfect bathing lake in the Ausseerland.

40 min by car (32 km)

The Grundlsee is by far the largest and one of the warmest bathing lakes in the region — especially in August, with peaks up to 25 °C. Around the lake there are almost exclusively publicly accessible, free beaches: in Gößl at the eastern end (very quiet, beautiful reed belt), at the Strandbad Grundlsee in Archkogl (with snack bar and playground) and at the Seeklause. Mountain panorama from the Totes Gebirge, drinking-water-quality lake water, plus SUP, pedal boats, sailing and rowing. The 3-lake tour with a flat-bottom boat to the Toplitzsee and Kammersee is a great excursion on top.

Water temperatures across the season

The Hallstättersee regularly reaches 22–24 °C in high summer (July/August) — before mid-June it’s still noticeably cooler. The warmest is the Wolfgangsee: 23–24 °C in high summer is no rarity (15–25 min by car, depending on the beach). The Grundlsee in the Ausseerland reaches up to 25 °C in August — a perfect bathing lake. The Gosausee, by contrast, stays cool all year (rarely above 18 °C) — more of a brave plunge after a hike.

The Traun surprises: in hot summer weeks often warmer than the lake, and at the Goisererbrücke (3 min on foot) you swim practically at your doorstep.

Insider: when which spot is empty

Strandbad Untersee: weekdays before 11 a.m. you have the lawn almost to yourselves. Sundays forget it. The Goisererbrücke on the Traun is quiet even on weekends — most people don’t know the spot.

Strandbad Obertraun is especially worth it on hot late-summer weekends, when the lake reaches its warmest 23–24 °C.
