The Ewige Wand is a landmark of Bad Goisern: a long, south-facing rock face you can see from many spots in the valley. A scenic path blasted out of the rock runs through its western part – one of the most beautiful short hikes in the region.
The route
The starting point is the car park at the Rathlucken Hütte on the Wurmstein, about 11 minutes by car from Villa Salzweg. From here the Höhen- und Sagenweg (heights and legends trail) leads through the forest to the rock face and then through two tunnels that were blasted into the rock in the mid-1950s. The exposed sections are secured with a steel cable, and along the way carved wooden figures tell legends from the Salzkammergut.

Highlights
The highlight is the view from the rock face across the Goisern valley – on clear days all the way to the Dachstein. If you have more time, extend it to the loop over the Predigstuhl (1,278 m): about 3 hours, with a view of the Hallstättersee from the summit. In autumn, when the deciduous forests change colour, the hike is especially impressive.
The short legends trail is ideal for families. With an all-terrain pushchair it is only partly manageable, as the path is natural, with roots and stones. Please keep small children by the hand in the rock face. Sturdy shoes are recommended.
