New from 2027: The Summerfolk & the Salzweg Hideaway

We've been working towards this for a long time – and soon it will happen: in the course of 2027 the Salzweg Hideaway opens in our annex building. New inside: the "Summerfolk" apartment, surrounded by a private garden that we've spent the past months turning into a small wellness retreat. Today we'd like to show you what has taken shape there – and why the result means so much to us.

Why a fifth apartment at all?

Again and again, guests asked whether we might have room for one more person, whether a couple could join at short notice, whether there was a quiet retreat for two or three when Villa Salzweg was already fully booked. Those conversations grew into an idea: a smaller, finer offering in the annex – with its own character, its own entrance, its own outdoor space. So that five apartments under two roofs feel not busier, but more relaxed.

The Summerfolk – a homage to the 19th century

The name comes from the Viennese tradition of the "Sommerfrische", the summer retreat: Emperor Franz Joseph, Sisi, Klimt, Brahms, Strauss – they all spent the hot season in the Salzkammergut, mostly between the Ausseerland and Bad Ischl. They came to breathe, to write, to compose, to paint. That's exactly the feeling this apartment picks up.

The Summerfolk apartment is deliberately compact: 55 m² on the ground floor, for two to three guests, with direct access to the garden. Its heart is a Living-Wellness-Suite – one generous room in which living, sleeping, dining and lounging flow into one another instead of being split into small rooms. We tinkered for a long time until the chill lounge was just right: for lounging, for reading — and as a proper bed for a third guest.

Everything is designed in classic countryside style with rustic reclaimed-wood and stone elements. The Swedish stove in the corner is practical on winter evenings – and just as much a nod to the era when summer guests wrote their travel journals by the fire.

The VIP garden – the real highlight

What makes the Hideaway truly special lies outside: a private wellness garden, well shielded from prying eyes and reserved exclusively for our Hideaway guests. No sharing with other apartments – a genuine retreat for a couple, a small family or a small group.

The hot tub was one of our favourite decisions. A cool-down in summer, a view of snow-covered mountains in winter – to be honest, we regularly sink into it ourselves these days when things quiet down after a long day of renovating. And the trampoline corner for the kids has become our best proof that a parents' holiday and a kids' holiday don't have to be at odds.

Booking the whole Hideaway

Alongside the Summerfolk, the Hideaway also includes the Musician apartment upstairs, which many of you already know. If you'd like the whole place to yourselves – 140 m², up to 10 guests, VIP garden all yours – you can request the Musician and the Summerfolk together as the complete Salzweg Hideaway. Ideal for family gatherings, weekends with friends, or whenever peace matters more than any square metre.

We deliberately offer the Summerfolk and the complete Hideaway on request only – so we can prepare every stay personally, respond to your wishes and heat up the hot tub for your arrival day. No online calendar, no anonymous bookings – just write to us.
