In the middle of Bad Goisern, in Schloss Neuwildenstein right on the market square, the crafts of the Salzkammergut have a home: the Hand.Werk.Haus Salzkammergut. It is run by an association of craftspeople from all over the region.
The exhibition
The exhibition shows traditional, contemporary and future craftsmanship in four themed areas: "From head to toe", "The necessity of beauty", "From gable to cellar" and "From hand to mouth". Guided tours tell the stories behind the pieces – there are even dedicated tours on traditional dress.
The legendary "Goiserer"
The "Goiserer" is the mountain boot from Bad Goisern. With its characteristic double stitching, it was for decades considered the mountain boot. Emperor Franz Joseph wore it when hunting in the Salzkammergut, and its reputation spread far beyond the region. It is still made by hand today at the "Der Goiserer" shoemaker's workshop in Untere Marktstraße, just a few steps from the Hand.Werk.Haus. If you'd like to watch or order a made-to-measure pair, arrange an appointment by phone.

Lieblingswerk shop & workshops
The "Lieblingswerk" shop offers regional crafts and Scandinavian design to browse and buy. In the workroom bookbindery and at manufactory workshops with master craftspeople you can try your own hand. Special event days take place throughout the year, such as the Salzkammergut woodturning days in October and the Meister-Advent in December.
For visitors
The Hand.Werk.Haus is open year-round from Monday to Saturday. An ideal programme for rainy days — or for anyone who wants to feel the real Salzkammergut.
